Drawing on her background in neuropsychology and the precision it requires, Melissa Baney met her match as a lawyer tasked with scrutinizing scientific evidence. Known for her attention to detail, it is in this space that she gets to practice the best of both worlds.

A member of the firm’s 2022 Summer Associate Class, Melissa practices in the firm’s Complex Litigation, Pharmaceutical & Medical Device, and Products Liability & Toxic Torts groups. Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, motions drafting, witness preparation, and analyzing discovery documents for the firm’s litigation matters. Melissa is also a member of the firm’s Business Development Team, which publishes relevant content related to cases, trends in the law, and legal updates. Melissa prides herself in quickly adapting when pushed outside of her comfort zone and going to all ends to uncover answers that further the clients’ interests.

Prior to joining Hollingsworth LLP, Melissa served as a Heath Law Intern for the Addiction and Public Policy Initiative of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law and Policy in Washington, D.C. She co-authored numerous articles and reports on emerging laws governing medication-assisted treatment for substance abuse, as well as contributed to the model state statute directing opioid litigation settlement funds (The New Mobile Methadone Rules And What They Mean For Treatment Access; National Snapshot: Access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder in U.S. Jails and Prisons).

Receiving her J.D. from Georgetown Law, Melissa was Managing Editor of the Food and Drug Law Journal and was involved in the Health Law Society and Women’s Legal Alliance. She graduated from American University with a M.A. in Psychology and a B.A, cum laude, in Psychology. While at American University for graduate studies, Melissa served as a Research Assistant in the Behavioral Pharmacology and Health Promotion Laboratory.

Melissa hails from a performing arts focused family. With her background in songwriting and theater, she enjoys unwinding from the practice of law by performing with The Georgetown Gilbert & Sullivan Society, as well as soaking up comedy when she can.
