In a recent National Law Journal piece on a strong 2023 for smaller litigation firms, the NLJ interviewed Hollingsworth LLP’s new Managing Partner Donald R. McMinn who spoke of the firm’s successes in 2023 and new matters for biotech company Amgen since its recent acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics.

As the article points out, litigation was a big driver in 2023, particularly among midsize and smaller firms outside Big Law. According to the NLJ, “[m]idsize firms saw their biggest counter-cyclical gain in litigation hours, [per] a recent legal market report by Thomson Reuters and the Center on Ethics and the Legal Profession at Georgetown Law. Overall, litigation was the biggest driver of demand growth for the legal industry in 2023, expanding by a 15-year high of 3.2%, according to the report.”
