The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recognized the architecture firm of Davis Carter Scott for their design of Hollingsworth LLP’s renovated office with a 2010 Premiere Bronze award. The IIDA Design Awards program is one of the most prestigious forms of recognition for international interior design. The award-winning design created by a team led by Lena Scott, Principal-In-Charge, and Christine Garrity, IIDA, LEED AP, Associate Principal, embodies the themes of strength, integrity, and longevity, contrasted with contemporary concepts of innovation and modernism. These distinct yet unifying themes symbolize both the history and future of the Firm. Hollingsworth LLP’s goal through the design is to brand the Firm a “law firm of the future.”

Highlights of the design include a custom onyx reception desk created as a one-of-a-kind piece of sculpture; a seven-room conference center with sweeping views of downtown D.C. and Franklin Square Park; a mock courtroom; and a dramatic employee café incorporating a curved grid tin ceiling which stretches the length of the room. According to the firm, “The design represents who we are as a Firm both aesthetically and functionally. Using cutting edge technology as both a design statement and a way for people to work and interact was very important to us. We also wanted to design unique spaces where people could physically come together to interact and collaborate. And, from a purely aesthetic reaction, it’s so fulfilling to hear people say ‘Wow!’ when they enter the space. We get that a lot!”

Davis Carter Scott received the Bronze Award for Commercial Interior Architecture, 20,000 square feet to 100,000 square feet. The project was a 90,000 square foot in-place, phased renovation.
