news | January 2, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC January 2, 2024 – Washington, DC litigation firm Hollingsworth LLP announced Donald R. McMinn has been selected as Managing Partner of the firm, effective January 2, 2024. He succeeds Donald W. Fowler, who is retiring after more than 40 years at the firm and 14 years as Managing Partner. As the new Managing Partner, McMinn will continue to strengthen Hollingworth LLP’s reputation as a leader among litigation firms and help guide the firm’s strategic direction.

“I am proud of the reputation Hollingworth LLP has earned as an innovative and forward-thinking firm that provides powerful results for our clients’ toughest litigation challenges,” said Fowler. “Don McMinn will help to propel the firm to its next stage through his talent, insight, and energy.

With considerable experience defending clients involved in multidistrict litigation (MDL) proceedings, McMinn has a long history of leading both Hollingsworth LLP attorney teams and local counsel teams in implementing a unified, consistent strategy across multiple jurisdictions with simultaneous proceedings. Focused on the ultimate trial strategy, he develops deposition strategies, supports experts developing their testimony concerning causation and damages issues, and engages in motions practice and oral argument to knock out opponents’ causation experts on Daubert grounds. He also enjoys the opportunity to eliminate opponents’ theories of liability with a goal of making trial legally unavailable or at least practically unpalatable to those opponents.

“Don Fowler’s vision, calculated problem-solving, and patience are the hallmarks of his reputation, and I am honored to have been selected to succeed him,” stated McMinn. “We are grateful for his leadership, which has helped position us as a litigation powerhouse, known for handling nationally important complex litigation in every area in which we practice.”

Digging deep into legal doctrine, McMinn speaks on insurance topics, including managing the insured-insurer relationship and securing defense costs in the event of a conflict. He served on the editorial board of the Insurance Coverage Law Bulletin for a number of years and has served as Adjunct Professor of Law, teaching insurance coverage law at The George Washington University Law School. Additionally, he has served on the Alumni Council of Swarthmore College and is a member of the Legal Council for the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law. McMinn clerked for the Hon. Manuel L. Real, Chief Judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California after he had received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College.
