The National Law Journal selected Hollingsworth LLP three times in seven years for its Top Ten Defense Wins list, including for its success in Crowson v. Davol, a major medical device trial in 2004.
This complex medical causation case was further complicated by the judge’s order that each side take no more than ten hours to present its case. This was the first hernia repair mesh case in national serial litigation to test the plaintiffs’ liability theories in trial. Plaintiffs sought more than $20 million in compensatory and punitive damages. After only fifty-five minutes of deliberation, the jury returned with a unanimous verdict in favor of our client. The plaintiffs did not appeal this decision, and a similar case that was previously filed by the same plaintiffs’ lawyers was immediately settled for a nominal sum a week after this defense verdict.
The Firm was was previously honored by NLJ for “top defense wins” for Glastetter v. Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. and Warren v. Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corp..
