Hollingsworth LLP Names Charlie’s Place as May 2021 Community Engagement Partner
news | May 1, 2021
Continuing our commitment to the Washington, DC community, the Firm designates Charlie’s Place as its May 2021 Community Engagement Partner. The Firm will donate to Charlie’s Place and match donations by all Firm employees made in May.
Charlie’s Place was founded in 1990 as a non-denominational, anti-hunger, homeless ministry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church serving the homeless and underprivileged populations in the neighborhoods of DuPont Circle, Adams Morgan, and Columbia Heights. It is a warm and calm space where people experiencing homelessness can have basic needs met while also finding the resources they need to empower themselves and better their lives.
Charlie’s Place offers weekday and Saturday meals, distributes bagged lunches, clothing, and toiletries, and provides haircuts, medical care, and mental health activities throughout the week. Case management services are offered Tuesday through Saturday, assisting individuals with housing, employment, transportation, social security benefits, and referrals to mental health services. With an operating budget of less than $500,000, Charlie’s Place has few paid staff and relies on many in-kind donations of goods and services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Charlie’s Place moved its services outside to continue meeting the growing needs of the homeless population in DC.
It is our hope that members of the Washington, DC legal community and the larger business community will recognize the value of Charlie’s Place and join in providing support.
