Hollingsworth LLP selects the Greater Washington Urban League as its January 2021 Community Engagement Partner.

news | January 1, 2021

To address ongoing housing insecurity affecting Washington, DC families amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Firm designates the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) as its January 2021 Community Engagement Partner. The Firm will donate to GWUL and match donations made by all Firm employees.

GWUL is a local non-profit that focuses on historically vulnerable and diverse populations in the DC community.  It is one of Washington’s oldest civil rights organizations and its programs include emergency housing and utility assistance, youth development and scholarships, securing and protecting home ownership, workforce development, and small business development.  To help provide assistance to DC families during the COVID-19 pandemic, GWUL has partnered with the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to provide financial assistance to residents who are delinquent on rent or unable to pay rent as a result of lost employment or inability to work due to the pandemic.  The COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program (CHAP) lasts until funds are depleted.

GWUL also provides rental assistance through its ongoing Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).  ERAP helps District residents in need of funding for overdue rent and facing eviction.  ERAP also supports security deposits and first month’s rent.

In addition to rental assistance, GWUL works with PEPCO and the the DC Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) to provide assistance to families who are unable to pay their electrical and water bills during times of financial crisis.  As is the case in communities across the country, the pandemic has uprooted many families and caused them to suffer financial instability.  Hollingsworth is proud to begin the new year by partnering with an organization that helps support and empower the families in our community who are most vulnerable.
