Hollingsworth LLP Sponsors Its First Annual First-Year Mock Trial Competition
news | April 9, 2024
Hollingsworth LLP is pleased to announce its sponsorship of The George Washington University Law School’s first-year mock trial competition, renamed the Hollingsworth LLP First-Year Mock Trial Competition. Though GW Law has held the competition for many years, this was the first year it has been sponsored and supported by a law firm.
The 2024 competition began in early March with 175 students competing in teams of four at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, which several preliminary rounds reduced to four semi-finalists. On April 5, 2024, Hollingsworth LLP held the final rounds in the Firm’s Mock Courtroom and included a livestream to GW Law School.
Several months prior to the start of the competition, attorneys from the Firm worked with the GW Law Mock Trial Board in planning the competition, hosting a trial-skills session, and making themselves available for competitors’ questions. Twenty attorneys from the Firm acted as coaches to the four teams that advanced to the semifinals and served as judges for the final rounds. Students performed all trial-related tasks: pre-trial motions, openings, closings, direct and cross-examination of witnesses, voir dire, objections to testimony and exhibits, and Rule 50 motions.
Hollingsworth LLP is delighted to be able to work with a talented group of law students as they prepare for careers in the law and is dedicated to helping them develop their legal skills.
